As the days get longer and the cicadas begin to sing in the early evening, locals from Kamogawa begin to prepare for their annual summer festival. The fresh of the night is a new opportunity to gaze upon its starlight and indulge in oily street food. People can be seen running around setting up their stalls and game stands with excitement as everyone of all ages look forward to the event. Students begin making plans with their friends to meet up at the festival. Many incoming students from all around Japan, looking to go to school at Asagao Academy, arrive early to settle down and participate in the summer festival of the new coastal city they will soon be living in.

What is a “Natsumatsuri”?

 

Summer festivals, also known as natsumatsuri 「夏祭り」, are a popular type of yearly festival that typically span several days where people can enjoy delicious foods, dress up in fancy yukata, play fun games, and watch fireworks.
